Animated learning

This afternoon XY7 taught me about the educational value of the animated series Scooby-Doo.
(Anyone who doesn't know who Scooby-Doo is can find out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scooby-Doo )
I was watching and listening to XY7 reading a fantasy/sci-fi type story as part of his set daily homework. One of the characters was Supercanine. I thought he would struggle with the word but he didn't. I asked him if he knew what a canine was. He answered: ``Yes, a dog''. I asked him how he knew that because it was a difficult word for someone in Year 2. ``I learnt it from Scooby-Doo. Scooby-Doo is a canine and he's a dog,'' was the reply.
There you go. It's not just brainless fun after all.
